Tell us about Revive (The Revive Series)

Revive is my debut YA novel and the first in the Revive series, which will be a total of six books. It follows our heroine Cat as she overcomes crippling amnesia and learns the dark reasons behind her disability, her parents’ deaths, and her new painful reaction to iron…

What genre is it?
Young adult urban fantasy

Tell us a bit more  about Cat Lindensen and the world she lives in.
Cat Lindensen is a pretty bitter sixteen-year-old girl, having absolutely no recollection of her life beyond the last forty-eight hours and routinely left alone by her workaholic uncle. As such she’s developed a thick skin to hide her loneliness – until Uncle Hal suddenly uproots their whole lives to take a new job in Portland, OR. As soon as she unpacks, the carefully placed walls around Cat’s life begin to crumble. Her first taste of glamour, hallucinations at the touch of the new, rather good-smelling boy in school; and the increasingly odd behavior of her uncle all open Cat’s eyes to the world that exists beyond her own, and her own terrifying past.

What kind of readers will it appeal to?
YA lovers of faerie and wraith mythos, as well as anyone looking for intelligent characters, a page-turning plot, and a fiery romance that DOESN’T involve a love triangle! How about that?

Complete this sentence for us: If you like ___________, you’ll love Revive
Julie Kagawa’s Iron Fey series
Becca Fitzpatrick’s Hush, Hush
Laurie Faria Stolarz’s Touch series Awesomeness.

You imply on your site that you have already written 5 books in the series. Can we ask a simple question? WHY ARE YOU MAKING US WAIT?!!!  And what can we expect from those books?
Haha, I’m sorry! But I’m still doing better than authors who write and release one at a time, right? And that answer is simple: all those books suck right now. Suck big. MASSIVE edits are necessary to make these fit for consumption, and believe me, I’m just as anxious to get these books out there as you are.

There’s a lot to expect in this series. In Sustain, Cat is being chased by a fairly interesting character we’ll come to know quite well – and who I’ve found to be highly addictive in the wishing-fictional-characters-were-real-so-I-could-date-them category. The rest of the series takes us on journeys across the world and out of it completely, into the heart of Faery where the legends surrounding Cat are put to the test as she discovers what she truly is.

You have (quite bravely, we think) pointed out that a lot of Young Adult novels are written by middle-aged women struggling, often in vain, to remember their own youth. How have you made your characters more realistic, and what difference does that make to readers?
Live bravely! It was very important to me to make my characters as realistic and relatable as possible. To do this I became each of them in turn, seeing the entire story from their perspectives and really analyzing how their own personalities, motivations, and histories would influence them to act. Above all, granting them common sense was my goal. Nothing pulls me out of a story faster than arguing with the characters when they make stupid decisions for no apparent reason. I hope this realism translates to a more consuming atmosphere for my readers to lose themselves in.

And it helps that I’ve never progressed in maturity past age seventeen.

Neither have we! Tell us a bit about yourself.
Why, thanks for asking! I live in Oklahoma, have a cat named Spaghetti, a degree in Geography (don’t ever get a degree in geography, it’s just stupid), and my favorite author is Dave Barry . For fun I enjoy going to sleep early. My spirit animal is the raccoon from Pocahontas.

Have you got a blog or website where readers can keep up with your work? Do you use social media?
Do I!
Website (includes fun extras for Revive and sneaks at my next books): scharrison.com
Blog: psychosocko.wordpress.com
Facebook (where I announce upcoming sales and free events first, hint hint)
Goodreads
Twitter (where I spend most of my time trolling strangers): @SCHAuthor
Pinterest (where I keep a board of people/things from my stories)

Where can we buy Revive?
At the moment Revive is available exclusively for Kindle and as a paperback through Amazon ( USUK).

After the first of the year Revive will also be available through Barnes and Noble for the nook and also from Smashwords as a digital download.

What’s next?
I plan on releasing Sustain in 2013 and the others shortly thereafter. Apart from the Revive series, however, I have a couple contemporary YA titles that I’m also excited to share with you. These are quite different than Revive, but I think I might love them even more. I hope you do, too.
